beams is a Mac Menu Bar App located at the top of your screen in the menu bar. After installation it is placed on the left end of all your icons. It should look something like this:

beams closed

beams closed

beams menu open

beams menu open

If you can’t find beams, there is probably not enough space in your menu bar. Please try to:

  1. Press ⌥B (Option + B) on your keyboard. This shortcut will open the beams menu.
  2. Move beams to the right in menu bar by pressing and holding the command key and dragging beams further to the right. New menu bar apps are added one after another on the left side. If the menu bar is too full, the new ones like beams might not be visible anymore. You can try to move beams further to the right in the menu bar (closer to date & time) by pressing and holding the command key and dragging around the icons.

If you have a new MacBook with the notch at the top of the display, then you are even more likely to have this space problem in the menu bar.
